What you need to know before taking out your braids! (For length retention).
But I'm back here now and I will try my best to upload as often as I possibly can. If you follow me on my other social media platforms you might have noticed that I have been long term protective styling with >> BOX BRAIDS<< . If you want to see how I install my braids to keep my edges safe Click >> HERE<<.
I recently took them out and I wanted to share a great tip with you guys that I really find helpful. A good tip for when removing your braids is to spray them with conditioner and water before removing them. This will give your hair moisture and the slip and slide that you need to minimize breakage when taking out your braids.
Another tip is also to NEVER stress when removing them. I know we just want wash day to be over as quick as possible but to be hoenst if you stress this, you are most likely going to cause some stress and breakage along the way.
When we take out our braids, we do naturally lose hair that fell out during the protective time. This fall out should be full hair's that have a root and tip not just short tips. If they are short hair's that is usually shedding or breakage and is a sign of mistreatment or dry hair. We lose hair everyday so you're suppose to have fall out when you take out your braids but when we take out our braids it may seem like a lot of hair because all of that hair that was suppose to fall out once a day comes all of a sudden all at once. Don't be scared girl, this is normal!
When I've taken out my braids I always add a lot of oil to my hair before washing my hair. This is to minimize knots and shrinkage while washing my hair. This has REALLY helped me retain length. This method is called a "pre-shampoo oil treatment". I do this every wash day and it has saved me from long detangling sessions.
I hope this tip will help you on your natural hair journey.
All the best,
Love / Lioness
